Interview transcript

Q. So, what influenced you into singing?

A.I used to be in Choir Club at primary school. It was amazing, I used to sing classics like ‘Amazing Grace’ that was one of my favs. When I got older, I got noticed. I always entered almost every talent competition.

Q. Interesting, so you started out as a choir singer and now your a rock chick singing screamo, how did this happen?

A. Well... by the final years of high school I realised peoples’ styles were changing! All my friends no were no longer supporting my singing; they were going out to gigs and dressing totally different! This was a shock to me as we ALWAYS did everything together! So obviously it was time for a change. I changed everything about me, my style, my attitude and my music! Out came the black nail varnish, hair dye, eye liner and bright eye shadows!

Q. Wow! So what bands were you listening to?

A. There was many to be honest. I listened to Panic! At The Disco for a while but then I went on to more screamo bands like Bullet For My Valentine and Bring Me The Horizon.

Q. Good choices. When was the first time you sang screamo in front of a large audience?

A. It was in my first year of college. I was able to be a line up for GO:AUDIO! That was awesome, I sang with the rest of the band in front of an audience of 300! I have sung in front of 50 peers... but 300 fans! It was Crazy! This was when I started to become who I am today.

Q. Go you! Seeing as this is a Rock Chick Magazine, what's the secret to your two coloured make up?

A. Ahh, well.. you see, it comes with practice.. Lots of practice. I used to sit on my bed all evening practicing with my liquid eye liner. Oh and the two coloured eye shadow, it’s all about the blending, I use a different brush to blend. It’s really easy when you know how.

Q. Of course. What is the future for TornRose? Where will you be in 6 years?

A. Very big! I hope. I hope that we will have two maybe three successful albums out. Many singles out, maybe few in the charts. Oh! And everyone will have heard of us, who knows!

In my photo shoot i am planning to take many photos which i can narrow down the perfect few. Im planning to take images that are close ups and medium close ups of the model that i have chosen for my font page. The model i have chosen is one of my friends. Im going to try and take images that represent the gossipy rock chick magazine i have designed, there for i have planned to take a close up for my front cover of one band member and im going to cover her mouth with a piece of paper saying something like "Shh.. It's a secret" this would relate to the gossip side of the magazine. Also on this photo shoot, im also going to take images for the contents and double page spread.

My magazine that I am designing is all about rock/indie music, gossip and Style. My target audience is going to be rock chicks/indie chicks. My magazine is going to appeal to this audience because of its style and contents and also because of the USP. The magazine’s USP is that it’s going to appeal to girls rather than guys. This is because it is going to be gossip based and is going to include extras like ‘hot guy of the week’ poster which would only appeal to girls.

Over all, from my survey i have very useful responses which will help me develop my music magazine. I have found that the majority of my respondents do not download music illegally. This has supprised me because ilegal download is easy and free. To prevent illegal download i am going to advertise free legal downloads in my magazine. The majority of my respondents said that unsigned bands are important to music magazines. There for i have decided that i am going to include unsigned bands in my music magazines. From my survey i have found that band gossip is important in a music magazine. So, i have decided to base the double page spread on gossip from a band's lead singer or something like that.

[18]Magazine Front Cover And Contents

I think that the magazine cover that I have made works well. I think that the design and layout will appeal to sudents. The colour theme makes it look organised and not messy. I have used the "tips" as a pull line and i put it at an angle as the top layer to make it stand out.
I think that the contents page conects with the front cover because of the colour theme and the fonts used. I thinks that the gunge kind of effect works well and it will make it appeal to students.
